Azure Arc

Azure Arc provides a single pane of glass for management of your infrastructure no matter where it’s located. On-Premises, Google Cloud, AWS, another datacenter, it can all be brought in as connected machines and managed as resources inside of Azure. This now opens up a wealth of possibilities as these are regular resources that can be integrated with other Azure services.

There are three distinct components. Azure Arc for services allows management and governance across environments across the globe. Azure Arc for Kubernetes and Azure Arc for Data Services are other offerings that bring management of applications, cloud automation, and data governance for workloads running across the hybrid environment.

Azure Sentinel

Sentinel went GA the end of September. Microsoft’s cloud SIEM built completely in Azure has certainly been a game changer. Microsoft has built many data sources right into Sentinel. Many Azure and Azure AD services are available. Sentinel can pull information from Cloud services with simple one-click deployments. Data collection from appliances, Windows and Linux, integrated applications via the Rest API, and even pushing data into Sentinel with threat intelligence is all possible.

Combining the collection of data with the analytics, visualization of that data, and finally the Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) is what makes Sentinel so powerful. All without having to deploy an infrastructure, or typical maintenance associated with servers and applications.

Azure Synapse Analytics

microsoft ignite highlights, Microsoft Ignite 2019: Azure Highlights

Azure Synapse is the next evolution of SQL Data Warehouse. This was probably the biggest announcement at Ignite 2019, and is now in preview. Blending data integration with data warehousing, and big data into a single service for end-to-end scale is what Azure Synapse can provide.

Azure Synapse is made up of four components

  • SQL Analytics
  • Apache Spark
  • Data Integration
  • Studio (unified user experience)

Azure Synapse allows engineers to query both relational and non-relational data at petabyte scale. Power BI is of course deeply integrated. Enabling Azure Machine Learning is quite easy to enable to provide further intelligence. Existing data warehouses can be brought into Azure Synapse today.
