Microsoft announces the Viva platform that lives in Teams to enhance the remote work model
You may have heard about the recent launch of Microsoft Viva. In this post, we will explain ‘what is Microsoft Viva’ and how it can support your business. In the era of remote work, Microsoft continues to innovate its Microsoft 365 suite to further help those who have become accustomed to the work-from-home model and thrive in this type of environment.
Microsoft Viva is an employee experience platform, which brings together communications, knowledge, learning, resources, and insights. It integrates into Microsoft Teams and collects essential parts of a business into one central location.
“This is just the next step to making Teams the place you go to do your work,” said Kevin Vogl, Modern Workplace specialist and Sr. Solutions Architect for MessagesOps, a division of Sirius Computer Solutions.
In the announcement, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella commented, “No area has undergone more rapid transformation than the way we work,” adding, “We have participated in the largest, at scale, remote work experiment the world has seen,” underlining nearly 11 months of a pandemic that has reshaped how people work, learn and live. “As the world recovers, there is no going back. Flexibility in when, where, and how we work will be key.”

Viva Connections
Viva Connections helps keep everyone engaged and informed, wherever they are. This module gives users a curated, company-branded experience that brings together relevant news, conversations, and other resources. It is personalized and appears in the apps and devices users access every day, like Microsoft Teams.
Viva Connections is built on top of Microsoft’s SharePoint technology and serves as a dashboard for connecting colleagues remotely.

Viva Insights
Viva Insights is all about giving users personal, actionable insights to help them better manage their time and spot trends. Additionally, Viva Insights includes data for managers and leaders to monitor work patterns and trends, and provide recommendations for improving productivity and wellbeing.
Viva Topics
The first module, Viva Topics, is available now. It uses AI to organize content across the organization, making it easy for people to find information and put knowledge to work. Viva Topics allows users to:
- Automatically identify topics: It recognizes common topics across content and conversations and organizes the information to generate topic pages.
- Find related topics: Discovers and displays complementary topics and expertise from across sources.
- Automatically build topic pages: Creates topic pages and topic cards using suggested definitions, related content, relevant conversations, and expertise.
- Curate topics: Cultivates knowledge using the organization’s experts and AI to refine topic pages.
- Let knowledge find them: Shows topic highlights and displays topic cards in any Microsoft 365 app.
- Find topics anywhere: Gives people the knowledge they need anytime, anywhere by using search to discover topics.
Requires Microsoft 365 F1, F3, E3, A3, E5, A5, Office 365 F3, E1, A1, E3, A3, E5, A5, Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, or SharePoint K, Plan 1, or Plan 2 license to be eligible for Microsoft Viva Topics.
Viva Learning
Microsoft Viva Learning in Teams empowers teams and individuals to make learning a natural part of their day by creating a central hub for learning. There, users can discover, share, assign, and learn from content libraries across their organization.
This new, transformational learning experience makes all learning content available in one place—including LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Learn, third-party content providers, Learning Management Systems, and a company’s own content.
Microsoft Viva Availability
Microsoft 365 clients have access to Viva Topics now, and a public preview of Viva Insights is also available. Other modules will be released throughout 2021. Microsoft also plans to launch a private preview of Viva Learning and to announce more additions to Microsoft Viva throughout 2021.
