Windows 8.1 Update Install Deadline Extended
Consumer users of Windows 8.1 now have until June 10 to install Microsoft’s operating system update.
In early April, Microsoft released its Windows 8.1 Update and announced that users would have 30 days (until May 13) to install the new update or face losing future update support. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that they were going to extend the deadline out another 30 days (until June 10) to ensure the safety of Windows 8.1 users. For organizations, the new deadline for companies to install the update is August 12.
The update reflects a changed policy by Microsoft and while it doesn’t address user feedback request, it does include some new OS features. Applying the update sets a new “service baseline” for a machine and if the update isn’t installed on a Windows 8.1 machine by the deadline, then that machine will not receive any future updates from Microsoft.
Bottom line: Time to update and install Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 update.
